The stranger responds by throwing a bomb at him! Now, Ryota realizes that his life is in danger, and that he has somehow been trapped in a real-life version of his favorite game. Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 - A remake of an earlier 80's series that retells how the Nightsabers, a mysterious group of vigilantes , fight Boomers (androids) that have gone mad and morphed into machine eating, flesh craving monsters. The Nightsabers are a group of women who wear mechanically enhanced armor while hiding their identities. Clannad - Tomoya Okazaki is a third year high school student resentful of his life. His mother passed away from a car accident when he was younger, causing his father to resort to alcohol and gambling. This results in fights between the two until Tomoya's shoulder is injured in a fight. Since then, Tomoya has had distant relationships with his father, causing him to become a delinquent over time. While on a walk to school, he meets a strange girl named Nagisa Furukawa who is a year older, but is repeating due to illness. Due to this, she is often alone as most of her friends have moved on. The two begin hanging out and slowly, as time goes by, Tomoya finds his life shifting in a new direction. This is the best slice of life anime I have ever seen. I feel like it does a great job portraying the different styles of life people can have in high school, as well as putting those people through a few real life problems not over dramatized by the fact that they are young. Digimon Tamers - The anime decides to take a semi-meta approach this season with Digimon being a TV-show, card game, and video game within the show. Takato wants a friend so bad that he draws himself his very own Digimon, and through some digital magic he creates Guilmon. FLCL - Naota is a normal, yet slightly cynical Japanese 6th grade boy. When his older brother leaves for America to play baseball, he leaves his homeless 17 year old girlfriend Mamimi behind. Mamimi begins sending mixed signals and making advances towards Naota, further complicating his sense of identity and world view. But to make matters worse, Naota's world is totally turned upside down when he is run over by a woman on a Vespa. During their first encounter, she hits him over the head with her guitar, which then causes a horn to grow out of his forehead. Hen Zemi - At its simplest, Hen Zemi is about a girl, Matsutaka, who joins a group to get close to the boy she likes. However, the group's purpose is to do seminars and papers on perversion, fetishes, and other 'deviant behavior'. Active participation is almost required, and Matsutaka, who lacks the perversion to succeed at the research, watches her grades drop with each failed assignment.
Hen Zemi is different and weird. I'm not sure that that makes it good, but I think that makes it worth watching. And you would not see it at any other anime con's video room. So you should grab your perverted friends and watch it! Comedy, Adult, Preversions

Kaiji - Itou Kaiji is a bum who steals car emblems and slashes tires on what seems to be a regular basis. This routine changes one day when he is paid a visit by a man in a trench-coat. Once the two get talking, it seems that the visitor (Calling himself Endou) is a debt collector. The reason for his visit is an unpaid loan which kaiji had previously co-signed for a work-mate (Furuhata Takeshi). The original loan was 30000 yen and once Takeshi had disappeared, the loan then fell on Kaiji. Kaiji is then told of a way to clear the interest compounded debt (which stood at 3,850,000 yen), which involved getting on a boat with others in his position. Once on the boat the debtors would then have to gamble with loaned money, which would end with a few winning, and others getting into deeper debt and having to work to pay off their debts. After some coercing kaiji accepts a position on the boat, in order to clear himself and make a bit of money as well. Action, Psychological, Gambling

Last Exile: Fam, The Silver Wing - Last Exile was one of the all-time great anime. Interesting world, good characters, well thought out, and beautiful. This distantly related sequel takes place after the original, and is an odd mix of everything that Last Exile had that made it good, with all the stuff it DIDN'T have that also made it good thrown in too. It is much more "anime" than the original, but still captures the richness and depth of the world, and the child-like romanticism of flight. Sky pirates, Steampunk, Government in Exile
Macross Plus - Later in the Macross series, humanity is largely at peace. The movie follows two threads. The work of two test pilots as they work on two competing projects intended to replace the current Valkyries. Very Top Gun feel to it. On the other side is the female love interest, an AI specialist working to create the greatest music idol the world will ever see. Unfortunately, said idol's AI is based on a discontinued military project that gains awareness and decides she wants to play with the governments military toys. Thus the two rocket jockeys get dragged in to try and fend her off and save humanity from awesome J-Pop. Sci-Fi, Music, Mecha

Invisible to human eyes, witches are catalysts of despair in the areas they inhabit. An ally of Kyubey, a magical girl named Mami Tomoe, befriends and encourages the two girls to accept the contract. Mawaru Penguindrum - Mystery, Psychological, Fate - Mawaru Penguindrum begins when a terminally ill girl named Himari Takakura is miraculously saved from death by a strange spirit who resides in a penguin-shaped hat. However, in exchange for extending her life, the spirit tasks Himari's brothers, Kanba and Shouma, to seek out an item known as the Penguin Drum with assistance from a trio of strange penguins. What makes it so compelling to watch is that Kunihiko Ikuhara (director of Revolutionary Girl Utena) includes 'fate', 'destiny', penguins, and apples a lot in this series.
Medaka's Box - Medaka Kurokami, a first year student at Hakoniwa Academy, excels at everything she does. Despite being a freshman, she is unanimously voted student council president and along with her childhood friend, Zenkichi Hitoyoshi, she plans to solve all of the student body's problems that are submitted to a suggestion box, dubbed the "Medaka Box." May sound lame, but trust us, shit gets intense. Action, Comedy, Boobs
Millenium Actress A documentary is being filmed about a movie studio and its oldest actress, a woman who has been doing films for almost her entire life. She reflects on how she became an actress to track down a mysterious man from her childhood, and as she tells the stories the line between her life and her movies becomes blurred. It becomes impossible to tell what is real and what a film is, and the camera crew are drawn into becoming actors in the story of her memories.
This was a beautiful, wonderful story about life. About how you change as you grow older. About the things that you lose along the way, and what that means to you. It was a little silly and a little sweet at parts, and built to a fantastically satisfying end. I recommend it so highly.Drama, Psychological, Romance
Mirai Nikki - Yukiteru is a quiet boy who keeps a diary of what's around him instead of interacting with people. And this works well for him, right up until he's thrown into a survival game run by a god. People in his city who were keeping a diary, now have entries appearing from the future, allowing them to see what will happen before it happens depending on what they wrote about. The girl obsessed with Yukiteru knows what he'll do before he does it. The Criminal Investigation diary gives details on the crimes that will happen in the future. And so on. And the one who wins becomes God.
The survival game, battle royale aspect of this anime keeps it interesting and exciting throughout, especially with the unique diaries that each opponent holds. Survival Horror, High Stakes, Games
Mitsudomoe - Heart sailing aloft on wings of dreams, Satoshi Yabe begins his first day as a teacher. Then he meets his class, and the wings wither and die. Specifically, he meets the Marui triplets. Sisters. Students. Monsters. Mitsuba, the eldest, is a wannabe sadist with a bit of a weight problem. Futaba, the middle sister, is a well-meaning dervish with fists of steel, a gutter mind, and about one-quarter of the brains god gave a rock. Hitoha, the youngest, is quiet, which would be nice if it weren't the scary serial-killer kind of quiet. Together they get to work immediately making Yabe's life a hell of perverted misunderstandings, random violence, and assorted bodily fluids. Mobile Suit Gundam - Along with Eva and Yamato, this concludes our trio of the most important and influential anime of all time. One of the best war stories, coming of age stories, and mecha anime of all time, there is a reason that the Universal Century keeps expanding even 30 years after the original was released, with ZERO re-conning! Perfect Blue - Mima Kirigoe is a pop icon that decides to leave her band to pursue an acting career, but some of her more dedicated fans aren\'t happy with the decision. In fact, some feel outright betrayed. Stressed out between her role as a victim in a Crime Drama and being pursued by a delusional fan, the lines between fantasy and reality become hazy to her. Then co-workers start to get murdered, with all evidence pointing to her, she has to figure out what is real and what isn't.
This movie is one that could have just as easily been made as a live action film. It has a solid story with enough twists to keep you thinking, and is backed up by solid acting in English and a good somewhat stylized art style. It's also the only anime that I know of that people compare to Alfred Hitchcock movies. Horror, Psychological, Thriller

This particular tale from the saga follows the life of a man raised from his birth to be a killing machine, and the turn his life takes in the presense of this almost God-like creature.
