Pop Art Gallery!
Pop Art n. A style of art that imitates the techniques of commercial art and the styles of popular culture and mass media.
We are proud to announce that this year our con-suite is being heavily fortified with the addition of a gallery of Pop Art! Of course, the con-suite will still be a place to relax, grab snacks and drinks, and talk with your fellow attendees, guests, and staff.
Submissions
We are happy to take submissions from artists of all kinds for the gallery, with a preference towards those who are Anime Punch attendees (we're all about our community after all!). If you are interested in submitting a piece, please email info@animepunch.org to discuss the matter further.
Criteria
To maintain relevence to our event and attendees we will place a few requirements on the art to be featured, and will use a rather strict definition of "pop art".
- There is no requirement on medium. 2D, 3D, and 4D art are all acceptable.
- All works must be an original, and must be submitted by the creating artist.
- The subject of all the works must be a real commercial anime entity (ie: a character from a show, a mech design, etc.)
- Anime Punch, it's attendees, or it's staff are valid subjects. Other conventions are not. The industry studios are.
- If you're not sure, ASK!
- Provided there is artistic merit to the piece, there are no censorship requirements.
- Extremely large pieces may not fit. We will do our best to accomodate.
- Submission is no guarantee of inclusion
- Fan-art is not pop art. Obviously there will be fine lines here. To pre-empt arguements over the display-worthyness of a piece we will refer to a maxim to which there is little debate: "Art is in the eye of the guy who curates the gallery".
- Superflat is A-OK!
Security
There is none, submit your works at your own risk. Our staff will be in the con-suite any time it is open to the public (most likely constantly), but the works will be exposed and may be tampered with.
Duration
We ask that except in the case of pre-arranged special cases all work be delivered Thursday after 6pm for setup, and can be retrieved Sunday after closing ceremonies. Any works left after 6pm Sunday will be packed away with the rest of the cons stuff, and may never see the light of day again for months from that point!
Sales
The purpose of this gallery is to display works of art, not to sell them. As such the convention will not facilitate sales in any way, and will not allow sold works to be removed until Sunday. If you broker a deal, that is on your hands, and must be done in accordance with the commercial laws of the land.
Reproduction
We reserve the right to repost photos of your works on our website from now until the end of time. Credited, of course.
